This summer I was honored to received the Ruth Halvorsen grant for professional education from the National Art Education Association to attend a week at Bennington College taking a wonderful course through Massachusetts College of Art's Art New England course.
I selected to take Dean Nimmer's 100 Drawing challenge. It was a wonderful busy week full of laughs and giggles (Dean is THE funniest teacher I have ever had) and tons of art making! We were each given an empty studio space that daily filled up with great work created from a variety of process lessons (many found in Dean's books) that help you create and think in new ways.
He is the author of Creating Abstract Art: Ideas and Inspirations for Passionate Art-Making and Art From Intuition: Overcoming your Fears and Obstacles to Making Art two books I highly recommend every artist and educator has in their tool box of books.
Dean encourages you to create, not worry about what you are creating and enjoy and love the process. My favorite quote from Dean is "the only wrong thing you can do in art is not make any art".
I created 100 works of art that lead to some new discoveries and works, Here is a sneak peak with some more to come!
This wonderful week was supported by a grant from the National Art Education Foundation.
